of making puppets |
The
puppet heads are made of camphorwood, which
is first sawn into a base as the size of a
puppet heads. A line is drawn across the
middle of the place as the face, the cheeks
are cut sideways and the five sense organs
are fixed up. carving them out with a knife.
When the primary base has come into being,
it is covered with a piece of cotton paper
to get dyed and to make the veins hidden.
The base is then plastered with the filtered
loess pulp and polished with the dolphinfish
skin after it is dry. The five organs are
carved with a
bamboo knife, filling and polishing the
gaps, A puppet head is not finished until it
is smeared with powder, painted in colours,
spread with wax and fixed up hair, beard,
moustache or whiskers.
